"North American Solar Challenge"– NASC for short -–this is the new challenge for SolarWorldNo.1. In Dallas, the former Mecca of the American oil business on the
13th of July, the official race of solar–powered cars starts in North America, and sets thereby a marker for a change in energy policy. The route runs over 4,000 Kilometres to the north, crosses the Canadian border, and then turns onto National Route No.1 headed for Calgary. There are 27 currently teams signed up, almost all of them from American universities. The University of Bochum will once again demonstrate the competitiveness of German Engineering.

SolarWorldNo.1 has now safely returned from Australia and is now in the workshops of the University of Bochum, being prepared for the race in America. Some modifications will be required in order to conform the racer to the regulations of the NASC , including the upper shell. The climatic conditions North America will require that the racer also be suitability equipped for rainy weather. To that end, all pipes will have to be sealed and a windshield wiper installed.
